Description
Scanning electron micrograph of the surface of marjoram (Origanum majorana) leaf, densely covered with glandular hair (yellow), in which the essential oils are stored, which give the leaves their strong aroma. Leaf hairs (trichomes) and stomata can also be seen. Marjoram (Origanum majorana) is a perennial herb or undershrub with sweet pine and citrus flavors. Marjoram is indigenous to Cyprus and southern Turkey, and was known to the Greeks and Romans as a symbol of happiness. Magnification 200x (at 15 cm image width).
