Description
Polychetes are segmented marine worms that eat small particles floating in the water. Each member of a tube-dwelling species builds its own home on coral, rock, or shell, adding material at the wide end as it grows. Often worms from several species pile their tubes all jumbled up together, especially if their rock or shell is in an area of strong currents. This worm tube encrustation of a shell is from Baja California on the coast of the Sea of Cortez. SEM x35.
