Description
1877 lithograph shows Moses kneeling and reaching upwards to accept the tablets inscribed with theTen Commandments from the hands of God. Angels can be seen in the heaven. Published by F. W. McCleave and Company. According to the story in Exodus, God inscribed them on two stone tablets, which he gave to Moses on Mount Sinai. The Ten Commandments, also known as the Decalogue, are a set of biblical principles relating to ethics and worship, which play a fundamental role in Judaism and Christianity. They include instructions to worship only God and to keep the sabbath, and prohibitions against idolatry, blasphemy, murder, theft, dishonesty, and adultery. Moses was, according to the Hebrew Bible and Qur'an, a religious leader, lawgiver and prophet, to whom the authorship of the Torah is traditionally attributed. He is the most important prophet in Judaism and is also considered an important prophet in Christianity and Islam, as well as a number of other faiths.
