Description
Maboroshi. Illusion. Chapter 41. Two men and two women sitting on the ground staring in disbelief at a wizard with an attendant floating on a cloud. The Tale of Genji is a classic work of Japanese literature written by Murasaki Shikibu in the 11th century. The work is a unique depiction of the lifestyles of high courtiers during the Heian period, written in archaic language and a poetic style that make it unreadable to the average Japanese without dedicated study. The Tale of Genji is often referred to as "the first novel", though there is considerable debate over this. Kunisada Utagawa, 1857 (cropped and cleaned).
