Hunting Buffalo Camouflaged with Wolf Skins, 1832, by George Catlin. George Catlin (1796-1872) was an American painter, author and traveler who specialized in portraits of Native Americans in the Old West. Catlin foresaw a tragic future for the American bison and attempted to keep a record of the mammal from every angle and at every stage of its life.
