This is a color enhanced image obtained from a combined PET (positron emission tomography) CT (computerized tomography) scan. This is a frontal (coronal) image with the data from the PET scan combined with the anatomic/spatial data from a CT scan. PET images look at the metabolic activity of the tissues. The CT scan is better for precise structural/anatomic information. The fusion of the data from the PET scan and the CT scan provides the important functional imaging information from the PET scan with the excellent spatial anatomic information from the CT scan. This patient has lung cancer and underwent PET/CT to look for metastatic disease (spread).
