Poppy seed capsule. Color enhanced scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a section through the seed capsule from an opium poppy (Papaver somniferum), showing chloroplasts (green) and tracheid cells (spiral tubes) of the vascular bundle. At bottom the spongy mesophyll cells (sponge-like) store a milky sap, which contains up to 40 different psychoactive alkaloids, including morphine, codeine, papaverine and noscapine. Scanning Electron Microscope, magnification 800 1 (at 15x12cm image size)
