Description
Queen Victoria (1819-1901) the Prince of Wales (right) with the Russian royal family (from left) Empress Alexandra, baby Grand Duchess Tatiana, and Tsar Nicholas II. Inbreeding was common among royal families, causing genetic disorders. Victoria was married to her first cousin. She was a carrier of the gene causing hemophilia (recurrent bleeding). Her son, Prince Leopold, died of this. Two of Victoria's daughters were carriers of the gene, passing the disease on to the Spanish and Russian royal families.
