Description
The Rosette Nebula (NGC 2237- 2239). About 2600 light years away, it is a giant cloud of dust & hydrogen some 100 light years across. It is ionized & lit up by the open cluster of young, hot stars (NGC 2244) at its center. Part of the nebula contains thin dark filaments composed of interstellar dust; they appear to be condensing into round blobs known as Bok globules, which are believed to be regions where star formation takes place.
