Description
Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast (fungal) cells ferment sugars into alcohol and carbon dioxide. This fungus consists of single vegetative cells, and is otherwise known as baker's or brewer's yeast. Saccharomyces cerevisiae is able to ferment sugar, producing carbon dioxide and alcohol in the process. Saccharomyces cerevisiae is used in the brewing of beer, production of wine, and in baking leavened bread (causing the dough to rise). Image width 13.6 micrometers.
