Description

Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of T-helper cells that have docked to a macrophage. After macrophages have taken in foreign bodies or degenerated cells, they present specific antigens on their surface. These antigens activate the T cells to produce cytokines. In turn, cytokines activate cytotoxic T cells to destroy cells or bacteria. Magnification is 2900x at 15x12cm image size.
