Description

Wheeler Peak, at Great Basin National Park, Nevada. Established in 1986, the park is located in east-central Nevada, near the border of Utah. The park derives its name from the Great Basin, the dry and mountainous region between the Sierra Nevadas and the Wasatch Mountains. The park protects 120.6 square miles (312.4 km2) of land. The park is notable for its groves of ancient bristlecone pines, and Lehman Caves, at the base of the 13,063-foot (3,982 m) Wheeler Peak.
