Description
T-bacteriophages. Colored TEM of two T-bacteriophage viruses attacking a bacterial cell of Escherichia coli. Each virus has a protein head (orange) containing DNA genetic material (red) and a green contractile tail with yellow tail fibers. These viruses are attached to an E. coli cell (blue) and are using their tails as syringes to inject their viral DNA into the cell. The red DNA is seen emptying from the top of the head. Once within the cell, the virus DNA will take over, effectively turning the bacterium into a virus-making machine. T-bacteriophages are parasites of E. coli bacteria.
