Description
Intracerebral hemorrhage. Silhouette of a head with a computer-enhanced section through the human brain showing intracerebral hemorrhage. At left is the area of hemorrhage or bleeding (red) in the folded cerebrum of the brain. Intracerebral hemorrhage is a principal cause of stroke. This large hemorrhage has caused brain tissue to be compressed and pushed out of shape. Rupture of an artery usually results from hypertension (high blood pressure) or atherosclerosis (fatty deposits inside arteries). Symptoms include headache, speech loss, facial paralysis to coma. A large hemorrhage is usually fatal. Rehabilitation for the survivor is as for any type of stroke.
