Description
MRI scan of a normal brain in a sagittal section. The cerebrum, the largest and most developed part of the brain, has been colored green and blue. It is divided into the right and left hemispheres which are linked by a thick band of nerve fibres called the corpus callosum, visible as a narrow orange band just below the cerebrum. The dark area below the corpus callosum is a central cavity, the ventricle, which is filled with cerebrospinal fluid. The brainstem, a stalk of nerve tissue connecting the brain with the spinal cord, is visible at center. The round protrusion on it is the pons which contains thick bundles of nerve fibers. The cerebellum is found behind the pons.
