Color enhanced scanning electron microscope image of a ependymoma cells. Ependymomas are usually referred to as slowly growing glial tumors derived from the ependymic cells of the internal brain chambers and the central canal in the spinal cord. Due to their position, ependymomas frequently block the flow of cerebrospinal fluid, which can lead to an increase in the brain pressure. This can lead to headaches, nausea, vomiting and hydrocephalus. These ependymoma cells are grown on a glass platelet in culture. Magnification is 875x at 10 cm wide.
