The old couple Oxomoxo and Cipactonal, believed to be the ancestors of all humans, casting lots with grains of corn and burning incense. Cipactonal is the Aztec god of astrology and calendars. Oxomoco and Cipactonal were said to be the first human couple, and the Aztec comparison to Adam and Eve in regards to human creation and evolution. Some scholars claim that Cipactonal was the female and Oxomoco the male and that they were sorcerers and magicians. The Codex Borbonicus is an Aztec codex written by Aztec priests shortly before or after the Spanish conquest of Mexico. Like all pre-Columbian codices, it was originally entirely pictorial in nature, although some Spanish descriptions were later added. There is dispute as to whether the Codex Borbonicus is pre-Columbian, as the calendar pictures all contain room above them for Spanish descriptions.
