Artist's Description

Wardenclyffe Tower (1901-1917) also known as the Tesla Tower, was an early wireless transmission tower designed by Nikola Tesla in Shoreham, New York and intended for commercial trans-Atlantic wireless telephony, broadcasting, and proof-of-concept demonstrations of wireless power transmission. The tower was 187 feet high and the spherical top was 68 feet in diameter, but it was never completed nor fully operational, and the tower was demolished in 1917. Nikola Tesla (July 10, 1856 - January 7, 1943) was a Serbian-American inventor, mechanical engineer, electrical engineer, and futurist. He was an important contributor to the use of commercial electricity, and is best known for developing the modern alternating current (AC) electrical supply system. Because of his 1894 demonstration of short range wireless communication through radio and as the eventual victor in the "War of Currents" (Tesla vs. Edison), he was widely respected as one of the greatest electrical engineers who worked in A...
