A high-speed camera is a device used for recording fast-moving objects as a photographic image(s) onto a storage medium. After recording, the images stored on the medium can be played back in slow-motion. Early high-speed cameras used film to record the high-speed events, but today high-speed cameras are entirely electronic using either a charge-coupled device (CCD) or a CMOS active pixel sensor. The vocal folds, also known commonly as vocal cords, are composed of twin foldings of mucous membrane stretched horizontally across the larynx. They vibrate, modulating the flow of air being expelled from the lungs during phonation. Open during inhalation, closed when holding one's breath, and vibrating for speech or singing. Photograph original captioned Here is how Dr. Moore posed for vocal-fold pictures. He is looking directly into the light, and the camera is mounted behind the light. No date or location was given.
