Description
Apophyllite is a complex silicate mineral that is typically found in cavities in dark igneous rocks, such as basalt. It is usually associated with a group of minerals known as zeolites. Apophyllite is colorless but can be tinted by impurities. The material from Paterson, New Jersey is often green and the associated zeolite minerals can also be brightly colored, creating spectacular crystal clusters. The basalts in New Jersey have boasted numerous localities that yielded exquisite mineral specimens.
