Description
Buttercup seed head. (4th of 4 images). Close-up of a fertilized seed head of the buttercup (Ranunculus sp. ). The petals and male parts of the flower have been discarded, leaving just the ripening seeds in the ovaries. When the seeds are fully ripe, they too are discarded by the plant, and fall to the ground to grow into new plants. The buttercup is a common flower of heaths and meadows, and flowers throughout the Summer months between April and October.
