Anonymous portrait is believed to be the playwright Marlowe. Christopher Marlowe (1564 - 1593) was an English dramatist, poet, and translator of the Elizabethan era. Little is known about Marlowe, but he has been described as a spy, a brawler, a heretic, a homosexual, a magician, duelist, tobacco-user, and counterfeiter. He was stabbed to death by Ingram Frizer.
