Description
Coral cobbles on the beach of Bonaire Island in the Caribbean are fragments of coral skeletons, broken apart after the death of the coral colony that formed them. The limestone retains the imprints of coral polyps of different sizes. In the brain coral at upper left, so named for its resemblance to the surface of the human brain, polyps formed limestone only on two sides, creating rows and ridges.
