Description
This deep-sky mosaic image contains 200,000 galaxies that stretch back through 13.3 billion years of time. Astronomers have assembled this mosaic of the distant universe using 7,500 individual exposures representing 16 years of observations from the Hubble Space Telescope. It is one of the widest views ever taken of the universe with Hubble, yet only shows a section of the sky about the height and width of the moon as seen from Earth. The faintest and farthest galaxies in the image are just one ten-billionth the brightness of what the human eye can see. This view reveals how galaxies change over time, building themselves up to become the giant galaxies seen in the nearby universe.
