E. coli entero-hemorrhage bacteria. Colored Scanning Electron micrograph of entero-hemorrhage Escherichia coli (EHEC) bacteria. This is a dangerous form of the benign E. coli bacteria that live in the intestine. Usually transmitted by food poisoning, it can cause life-threatening diarrhea, intestinal bleeding, kidney failure and disturbances to blood clotting. There are no effective cures for EHEC, but there are treatments for dealing with the symptoms of infection. Magnification x5000 at 6x6cm size.
