Description
Electricity pylon. Sun setting behind electricity pylons and power lines. Transformers at power stations 'step-up' the electricity produced before it is transmitted along power lines. This means that the electricity is at a higher voltage but a lower current. This reduces the loss of electrical power due to heating in the power lines. Transformers at sub-stations then 'step-down' the power line electricity before it is distributed to homes and factories. Photographed near Fremont in California, USA.
