Interstate Bridge, connecting Lewiston, Idaho with Clarkston, Washington, on Highway 12. In this view, taken from Clarkston, Lewiston, Idaho lies across the Snake River near its confluence with the Clearwater River (Idaho). The historic cities were named after the Lewis & Clark Expedition, which passed through this area on both their outbound and return journies in 1803-1805. The Snake River is a major tributary of the Columbia River in the U.S. states of Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. The river is 1,040 miles long, flowing from its source in Yellowstone National Park through mountain ranges, canyons, and plains. Its drainage basin includes a diversity of landscapes. The Snake is the largest tributary of the Columbia River, and has the 12th largest flow among U.S. rivers.
