Description
Spirit rover's path on Mars. Panoramic image of the Martian surface showing the path travelled by the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit since it left its lander on 15 January 2004. The meandering route led the rover into a depression called 'Laguna Hollow' (upper centre), where it used one of its wheels to dig a trench on 21 February 2004. When this image was taken, Spirit was on course to a large crater called 'Bonneville' nearly 100 metres away. At bottom are part of Spirit's solar panels, the low gain antenna (silver pole) and compass (black knob). Spirit landed in the Gusev Crater near the Martian equator on 4 January 2004. This image was taken by Spirit's panoramic camera.
