Description
Color enhanced electron micrograph of a cell in the actively dividing root tip of maize. Several clumps of Golgi membranes can be seen above the nucleus, with a plastid near them. The mitochondria are few and far between. The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) consist of long, slender membranes, with few, if any attached ribosomes. Pores are evident in the nuclear membrane. Chromosomes show no distinctive structure. At this magnification, the few ribosomes in the cytoplasm are not clearly defined, but are present in substantial amounts. The primary wall and middle lamella can also be seen, with the latter most evident at the angles as the darker material.
