Description
For this image an interferometer was used to measure and photograph the interference patterns made by a group of water striders (family Gerridae) as they walk on the surface of water. Water striders move by making rowing motions with their middle legs. The hind legs steer the creature while the forelegs are used for catching prey. Their bodies are covered with silver, water repellent hairs.
