Human feces - digested food particles and a variety of bacteria - as revealed by scanning electron microscopy. Image width 10 micrometers; magnification 10,000x if the image is printed 10 cm wide. Two micrographs have been obtained at a 10 degree difference and then assembled into a gray red-and-cyan anaglyph (3-dimensional image). The 3-dimensional nature of the sample is apparent when viewed through a pair of red and cyan glasses. The 3-D view shows a great depth of the sample unlike a regular micrograph which makes an impression as if the bacteria are side by side whereas they are atop of each other. The high concentration of bacteria in feces calls for strictly adhering to hygienic rules, i.e., thorough washing of hands with soap after the visit to a washroom, restroom, toilet.
