Andy Warhol (1928-1987), artist and experimental filmmaker and one of the founders of the Pop Art movement. He is most famous for his large silkscreen prints of celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe and his paintings of everyday objects like cans of Campbell's tomato soup. He studied commercial art at Carnegie Mellon University and had a successful career in magazine advertising, which undoubtedly led him to explore the intersection of art and mass production and the democratic frisson created by their overlap. This photograph was taken in his Union Square loft, New York City, 1975.
