Description

Colored transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of a desmosome (macula adherens). Desmosomes act as storage for intermediate filaments of cytokeratin and anchorage points for the cellular cytoskeleton at the intercellular junctions between epithelial cells. Desmosomes are easily found in tissues that need to withstand mechanical stress, such as the skin. Magnification unknown.
