Description
Franz Peter Schubert (1797-1828) was an Austrian composer. He was a prolific composer, having written some 600 Lieder (19th-century German art song characterized by the setting of a poetic text in either strophic or through-composed style and the treatment of the piano and voice in equal artistic partnership), nine symphonies (including the "Unfinished Symphony"), liturgical music, operas and a large body of chamber and solo piano music. He died at the age of 31 and was somewhat unappreciated, but Liszt, Schumann, Brahms and Mendelssohn championed his works in the 19th century. Today, Schubert is seen as one of the leading exponents of the early Romantic era in music and he remains one of the most frequently performed composers.
