Patent for the Morgan Traffic Signal. Garrett Augustus Morgan, Sr. (1877 - 1963) was an African-American inventor. In 1923, he patented the Morgan traffic signal, a T-shaped pole unit that featured three positions Stop, Go and an all-directional stop position.
