Description

Color enhanced scanning electron micrograph (SEM) showing spun silk hydrogel from recombinant spider silk (produced by genetically modified bacteria). Spun silk proteins can be used as a coating of implants, wound dressings and carriers of medication. Methods of biotechnology have been developed to produce microparticles, films, gels, fibers and other products made from pure spider silk. Thanks to the Chair of Biomaterials, University of Bayreuth, Hendrik Bargel for the sample. Magnification 6001 (at 15x12 cm image size).
