Meloxicam pills, 15mg. Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic and fever reducing effects. It is of the oxicam class, closely related to piroxicam. Meloxicam inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX), the enzyme responsible for converting arachidonic acid into prostaglandin H2. Thus, it inhibits the first step in the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are mediators of inflammation. Side effects include gastrointestinal toxicity and bleeding, tinnitus, blinding headaches, rash, and very dark or black stool as a sign of intestinal bleeding. However, it has fewer side effects than diclofenac, piroxicam, and naproxen and does not interfere with platelet functions. Meloxicam is marketed under the brand names Bronax, Movalis, Melox, Mobec, Mobic, Mobicox, and Recoxa.
