Description
Excavated mosaic tile floor in the ancient city of Ephesus, the second largest city in the Roman Empire in the 1st Century AD. The site lies 3 km southwest of Selcuk, on the west coast of Anatolia, in present-day Izmir Province, Turkey. The ruins of Ephesus are a favorite tourist attraction, with easy access from Kusadasi. Archaeological research and restoration at Ephesus started in 1863 by the British Museum, and is funded today by the Austrian Archeological Institute. Only 10 percent of the ancient city of Ephesus has been unearthed. Work at the Terrace House is ongoing.
