Description
Color enhanced scanning electron micrograph (SEM) image of hyphae (white) of the Metarhizium anisopliae fungus covering the body of a mosquito (Anopheles sp.) larva. M. anisopliae grows naturally in soils throughout the world and acts as a parasite on various arthropod species. The fungus causes green muscardine disease and kills the host. It has been used as a form of biological pest control. Magnification is 23x when printed 10 centimeters wide.
