Description
Northern Harrier or marsh hawk in flight. Northern Harriers (Circus cyaneus) hunt by flying close to the ground and taking small animals by surprise. Harriers have keener hearing than other hawks; their disk-shaped face enable them to amplify sound. Harriers are the only hawk-like bird known to practice polygyny - one male mates with several females. Bosque del Apache NWR, NM.
