Description

Colored scanning electron micrograph of slime mold (Lycogala sp.) on an almond. This is the plasmodium phase of the life cycle during which it consists of one very large, multinucleated cell that moves slowly, feeding on fungi and bacteria. During poor conditions, the plasmodium will produce mushroom-like fruiting bodies which will release reproductive spores. Magnification is x300 at 6x7cm.
