Description
Scanning electron micrograph of Tanacetum trichome leaf surface. The tansies (Tanacetum) are a genus of flowering plants in the daisy family (Asteraceae). They thrive in the temperate areas of the northern hemisphere. The picture shows the leaf surface with hair, two stomata and two glandular hairs. The stomata regulate the CO2 balance and water exchange, in the glandular hair stores the plant essential oils. The insecticide pyrethrum is obtained from the dried flowers of Tanacetum species by crushing or extraction with solvents. Magnification 1000x (at 15 cm image width).
