Description
The West Amazonian Emerald Tree Boa, Corallus batesi, is an arboreal snake. It can sit in the same spot in a branch or vine for days on end, waiting for a prey item to pass by. Juveniles are brightly colored in yellows or oranges, changing color as they mature to green with white markings. This species was recently split from Corallus caninus (the Emerald Tree Boa) on the basis of DNA studies. This specimen was photographed in Amazonian Peru in 2010.
