Description
An adult luna moth emerging from its cocoon. Here the head and thorax are fully out and the antennae easily identifable. After emerging, the luna moth (Actias luna) has no mouth and cannot eat; it lives for only about one week, during which time it mates and lays eggs. This one was photographed (number 3 in a series of 13) at Florida's Timucuan Preserve.
