Description
Ash eruption at Halemaumau, the summit crater of Kilauea Volcano on March 26, 2008, the first since 1924. Kilauea is one of the world's most active volcanoes and is often associated withe passive lava flows. But this shield volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii has had a violent past. The ash seen here is issuing from a vent and is being generated by water and molten rock interacting beneath the surface.
