Description
Close-up of a fully-open buttercup flower (Ranunculus sp. ). There are five rounded petals surrounding the reproductive organs. The rod-like stamens bear the male organs, the anthers (yellow), and are arranged around the carpels (green). The carpels are the female parts of the flower, and each lobe contains an ovary which will develop into a seed after fertilization. The buttercup is a common flower of heaths and meadows, and flowers throughout the Summer months between April and October. (3rd of 4 images).
