Description
Cheetah cub (Acinonyx jubatus), 4 to 6 weeks old, released close to the cub's mother and the cub's five littermates in the open plains by rangers of Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya, East Africa. The cub was separated from its family the day before when a lion had charged the family and scattered the cubs. After the family was found feeding on a Thomson's gazelle just caught by the mother, the rangers were notified; they then brought the cub and released it. The cub promptly ran out into the Mara, having failed to spot its family, and was corraled by the rangers. When the mother heard its birdlike chirps she called to it, and it ran over to join the family.
