This shot shows the crescent in the upper half of the eye, a character that may be a 'left-over' from the Yellow-eyed Ensatina portion of its genetic background. This animal is from the hybrid zone or intergrade area between the Yellow-eyed Ensatina (E. e. xanthoptica) and the Sierra Nevada Ensatina (E. e. platensis).
