This unique pattern is created when a column of water is accelerated upward by high pressure air. As the column of water loses energy it falls back on the rest of the upward flowing column of water. This shape of flowing water gives insight into fluid dynamics and is governed by a number of the fluids properties including viscosity, temperature, velocity, pressure and flow rates.
