ATLAS MOTH (Attacus atlas) Freshly hatched female sitting on cocoon on Tree-of-Heaven (Ailanthus altissima). Note the delicate feathery antenna of this female. The antenna of the males are larger and more feathery. The Atlas Moth is a member of the Saturniidae family and is often considered the largest moth in the world. While it is actually not the largest moth but it is one of several species that are the largest in terms of wingspan and wing surface area. This species is found widespread thoughout the Asia, China, Thailand and the subcontinent of India. They are found in lowland and upland tropical rainforest habitats.
